Types of Injuries We Handle in Fort Collins

| Read Time: 4 minutes

At Tenge Law Firm, LLC, clients often ask us “What kind of personal injuries do you handle?” The short answer is, “all of them,” but we recognize that’s not necessarily helpful for people seeking advice about how to recover compensation after an unexpected injury turns their lives upside down. Below, we outline the broad categories of personal injury our clients often contend with after an accident.

If you have suffered an injury like these ones because of someone else’s negligence or recklessness, contact Tenge Law Firm, LLC at (970) 212-4777 to learn how our Fort Collins personal injury lawyers may be able to help you recover the compensation you deserve.

Acute Spinal Cord Injury/Paralysis

Acute damage to the spinal cord or the nerves at the end of the spinal canal can cause temporary or permanent paralysis of all or part of the body, depending upon where the injury is located and how severe it is. Spinal cord injuries commonly result from an impact or penetrating trauma (like a gunshot wound) to the spine. These can be some of the most devastating injuries imaginable, because of the severe impact they have on our clients’ lives and livelihoods. Our clients with spinal cord injuries often come to us while learning to live their lives from a wheelchair and coping with the news they may never walk again. Our mission is to help them recover the compensation they need to adapt to and thrive in their “new normal.”

Back Injury

Even those lucky enough to escape accidents without an acute spinal cord injury may still sustain debilitating back injuries, including fractured vertebrae, ruptured or crushed disks, and severe muscle and soft tissue sprains. Many of our clients at the Tenge Law Firm, LLC, have sustained back injuries in auto accidents, in falls, or at work (especially when lifting heavy loads). Back injuries can take a while to develop, but when they reach their full severity they can leave a victim hobbled. The chronic pain of a back injury can also lead to secondary difficulties, such as dependency on prescription painkillers.

Traumatic Brain Injury

Traumatic brain injury (TBI) results from any impact, jolt, or penetrating injury to the head that causes physical damage to brain tissue. The immediate and long-term consequences of a TBI can disrupt a client’s life in significant ways, including by causing memory loss, impaired reasoning and motor functions, and changes in personality. In severe cases, a TBI may cause a person to lose most normal life functions. At Tenge Law Firm, LLC, we aim to help victims of TBI and their families confront the new challenges of living with their injuries’ most lasting effects by seeking financial restitution from those responsible.

Traumatic Amputation and Crush Injury

Particularly common in violent car accidents and in accidents on construction sites, traumatic amputation (losing all or part of a limb in an accident) and crush injury (damage to a body part from being squeezed under or between heavy objects) can cause lasting physical disability and emotional scarring. To make matters worse, victims of these injuries may not be able to return to work in the same capacity as before, if at all. Our clients with these injuries frequently need prosthesis and long-term therapy to make their way back to a normal life. We are here to help them get there.

Burns

A variety of incidents may cause severe burns, including house fires, motor vehicle gasoline explosions, chemical exposure from defective products, or accidentally contacting a live electrical line at a construction site. Recovering from a severe burn can involve months of excruciating pain and multiple skin graft surgeries. Secondary infections pose a severe risk. Even with a “full” recovery, burn victims may be left with permanent disfigurement or disabilities.

Lacerations

Not all cuts and abrasions can be treated with a Band-Aid and some antibiotic ointment. An unexpected fall, a bite from a vicious dog, or the sharp edge of a crumbled automobile can all cut deep into skin and muscle. Untreated, severe lacerations may be fatal. Like burns, even when lacerations do receive appropriate medical attention, they may leave lasting, disfiguring scars. If a laceration severs nerves, it can also leave the victim with partial paralysis. At Tenge Law Firm, LLC, we know how to prove to insurance adjusters and juries that just because the skin has healed, that doesn’t necessarily mean our clients have recovered.

Orthopedic Injury and Fracture

Similarly, sometimes a broken bone is more than just a broken bone. When an accident causes bones to break in multiple places or heal incorrectly, or the soft tissue holding bones and muscle together tears and breaks (such as in a fall), victims can end up spending months in pain, forced to recover from complicated surgeries and endure months of physical therapy. Some orthopedic injuries can only partially heal, leading to permanent disabilities. Whether our clients have suffered these injuries on the job, or while shopping at the local grocery store, we are ready to help them seek compensation.

Medical Malpractice Injury

Not all of our clients’ injuries result from violent trauma. Sometimes, the very people in whom our clients have entrusted their healthcare cause them the most serious harm. A drug wrongly prescribed or administered, or a surgery improperly performed, can cause lasting damage to internal organs, nerves, and systemic health. A misdiagnosis can allow deadly cancer or painful conditions to worsen. When healthcare professionals harm patients, we have the experience and know-how to pursue justice for the victims.
