About Paralysis
Paralysis is the loss of sensation and control in a part of the body. A study initiated by the Christopher and Dana Reeve Foundation found that nearly 1 in 50 people live with some degree of paralysis.
The leading causes of paralysis are:
- Stroke
- Spinal cord injury– usually from trauma
- Congenital disorders (ex. multiple sclerosis, muscular dystrophy)
Paralysis may be limited to one side of the body or affect both equally, and may occur in an isolated area or over the entire body. Quadriplegia -also known as tetraplegia – is the paralysis of all limbs and the torso; paraplegia affects the body from the waist down. The disabilities from paralysis vary from person to person.
If paralysis is the result of a spinal cord injury, the degree of paralysis is determined by the location and severity of the injury. For example, if the victim suffers severe trauma to the cervical vertebrae (the highest vertebrae), he or she will most likely lose control and sensation in all limbs and even be at risk of losing the ability to perform involuntary functions such as breathing.
If, tragically, someone you love was rendered quadriplegic or paraplegic due to an accident that was someone else’s fault, contact paralysis attorney J. Todd Tenge of the Tenge Law Firm, LLC with offices in Boulder and Fort Collins. You can schedule a free, confidential consultation and discuss filing a personal injury claim against the person who caused the accident.

Hiring an Attorney
If attorney J. Todd Tenge can show that a victim’s paralysis was the result of another person’s wrongful behavior, he or she could be eligible to recover financial damages to pay for rehabilitation and therapy. People who are paralyzed require extensive medical treatment, rehabilitation, special accommodations for their homes and vehicles, and the services of a caregiver. Compensation can help cover the astronomical costs associated with paralysis; since victims are generally unable to work, this compensation can make up for the loss of earning capacity.
Mr. Tenge frequently accepts cases from people who have been paralyzed in an accident caused by a reckless driver. For example, in a car accident, bicycle accident, motorcycle accident, or pedestrian accident. If you believe that you or your loved one’s paralysis is the fault of another party, our attorneys can help. The first step is scheduling a confidential consultation to discuss your case and determine whether you have a viable personal injury claim.
